Peter Collins, Pianist in Recital

Native New Orleanian and renowned pianist, Peter Collins, returns to New Orleans to give a
recital presented by The Greater New Orleans Music Club. The recital is Sunday, June 22nd at 3 p.m. at St. Charles Ave. Presbyterian Church, located on the corner of State St. and St. Charles Ave. His program will include Schubert’s Sonata in B Major, Brahms’ Eight Pieces, Op. 76, Robert Haskins’ Invincible Summer, and Albeniz’s Iberia, Bk. 2. Peter Collins is Professor of Music–Piano and Coordinator of the Keyboard Division at Missouri
State University. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory under the instruction of Lillian Freundlich. After winning awards in several piano competitions, (Washington International Piano Competition, the University of Maryland International Piano Competition, the American Chopin Competition, the American Beethoven Foundation) he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Michigan as a student of Louis Nagel. Collin’s research and interpretation of nineteenth-century piano music of his native city of New
Orleans has led to the compact disc recording The Piano Music of Basile Barès released by Centaur Records. His extensive experience as a collaborative pianist has resulted in eight other compact disc recordings on the Albany, MSR, and Hester Park labels. Also Collins has served on the faculties of the esteemed Interlochen Arts Academy, the Missouri Fine Arts Academy and the Bösendorfer International Piano Academy in Vienna. The St. Charles Ave. Presbyterian Church is fully handicap accessible and ample parking on the street is available. The event is free.
